The Lab Gastropub
About This Spot
Stepping into The Lab Gastropub, located just beyond the energetic pulse of downtown Los Angeles, feels like entering a carefully curated experiment in casual sophistication. The space hums with a vibrant, youthful energy without ever tipping into chaos—an inviting crossroads where college camaraderie meets thoughtfully crafted bar culture. Here, the atmosphere is lively yet unpretentious, buzzing softly with conversations layered over the clink of glasses and the occasional cheer from the big screen TVs that draw game-day crowds.
The pace settles comfortably between spirited and relaxed; it’s the kind of place where you might find yourself lingering over a cold amber ale with friends, savoring moments that feel both familiar and a little special. Despite the spirited vibe, the background music and lighting strike a balance—enough to energize without overwhelming, setting a backdrop that encourages connection whether you’re nestled in a cozy booth or standing by the bar.
The Lab’s food is an extension of this atmosphere, elevating classics with a creative flair that makes each bite feel considered yet approachable. Imagine sharing a warm spinach dip paired with a fresh avocado toast or savoring the crispy edge of beer-battered fish & chips while swapping stories. There’s an ease here—comfort food made with an eye for detail, designed to complement the broad selection of craft beers and inventive cocktails rather than compete with them.
This is a spot where familiar flavors entwine with playful touches—a splash of horchata in a creative ice cream sandwich or the subtle kick of kimchi fries—that reward curiosity and invite casual indulgence. It’s no surprise that patrons often return, drawn by the sense of community and moments that feel both spontaneous and well-lived.
Whether stopping in for a quick bite before a game or settling down to enjoy a flight of thoughtfully chosen brews, The Lab offers a genuine slice of local culture. It’s a place that understands the rhythms of its neighborhood and invites you to pause, savor, and feel a little closer to the everyday joys of gathering around good food and drink.

This place is cool AF. I’ve been here two or three times, but this is the first time I review it. I was here for the Rams v. Saints game and I had a great time. The ambience is nice, and even though it’s a college hangout spot, it still keeps a cool level of sophistication. The “bar food” is elevated and prices are reasonable. As far as the food goes, we ordered (see pictures) the spinach dip and that was amazing. The little croutons they give you to dip with are out of this world highly recommend it. We also tried the nachos with steak and that was just as good. It’s rare that you find such good food from a college bar, but the steak was perfectly cooked and the whole thing was seasoned as if it belonged in a high end Mexican restaurant. The wings were not far behind, we had the Thai chicken wings. the only problem with those was that we wanted more but we had to leave to go to the game. We washed it all down with a bucket of beers and a few cocktails. The beer was fine, just bottled Modelo, and the cocktails were good by all accounts. Whenever we’re in the area, we’ll come back to this spot. It’s legit. The food is top notch, the cocktails are good and the beer doesn’t cost you an arm an a leg. Definitely give it a try!

Limited vegan options but good nonetheless. The edamame was superb! I couldn't stop eating it! Servers are friendly. Music can get a little loud, making it tough to have conversations without raising your voice or straining to listen to others that aren't right in front of you.

A quick sandwich before a sports event. Quantity of food was larger than I expected but a Chicken sandwich, fries, coke and the bill was $31. No real service as you order on your phone or at the bar. It was ok for a pre game meal but pricey.
